Appeal for peace in the Middle East, for Don Bosco 2000 a dialogue must be found
The last hours of conflict between Israel and Iran never give hope, a solution must be found for a de-escalation in the entire region because human lives are at stake.
The G7 declaration, while on the one hand bodes well for the commitment of world leaders to find a dialogue and a solution to peace, on the other hand worries only the defense of Israel.
“In this context, we affirm that Israel has the right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for Israel’s security. We also affirm the importance of protecting civilians. Iran is the main source of instability and terror in the region,” the leaders write.
As an Association, we believe that we need to find a dialogue, because millions of people live in Iran who certainly do not want the regime, but who do not want a war either. Israel’s strategy of eliminating hostile countries is definitely not the best solution.
“For years we have been engaged in the processes of reception, integration, training and international cooperation, especially in contexts of fragility and forced migration, we appeal, once again, because it is necessary to find a solution to put an end to conflicts, to put an end to the war in the Middle East” say the leaders of the Don Bosco 2000 Association.
The Middle East has been a tormented territory for too long, in need of stability and the true exercise of democracy.
“This war is a threat to democracy. This war is not a just war. No war is. All this is a pretext to distract public opinion, it is a choice of death that once again affects innocent people, men, women and children who did not choose this fate” says Agostino Sella.
“We who work every day with young people, with migrants, with the poorest, know well that peace is not built with bombs, but with encounter,” Sella adds.
In fact, peace is born from listening, from recognizing the other as a brother, not as an enemy. It is time for the international community not to limit itself to declarations of principle, but to engage concretely in building bridges, not walls.
“We appeal to European and international institutions, governments, civil society organizations, Churches, young people: the future cannot be built on hatred and revenge, but on justice, human dignity and solidarity,” conclude the Association’s leaders.
