Around 4 p.m. yesterday, April 27, 2025, Agostino Sella and Marco Canzonieri returned to Piazza Armerina, officially concluding the “Palermo-Dakar” solidarity journey: 10,112 km traveled by motorcycle and about 4,000 km by ship, crossing 7 states – Italy, Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal and Gambia – for a total of 28 stages.

An extraordinary undertaking born with a great goal: to raise funds for the construction of a new medical dispensary in Tambacounda, in the eastern region of Senegal, where the Don Bosco 2000 Association has been operating for almost a decade offering educational and health support to the local population.

The adventure, which started from the Ostello del Borgo in Piazza Armerina – the beating heart of the Association – has turned into a powerful example of solidarity without borders. During the journey, Marco and Agostino also involved other motorcyclists who spontaneously joined the humanitarian mission, demonstrating that solidarity knows no barriers or flags.

“We are not heroes, but simply volunteers who every day hope and believe in a better future for every man and woman on the planet,” said Agostino Sella, president of Don Bosco 2000.

“This experience was hard but beautiful: it enriched us humanly. The great welcome party when we delivered our contribution to Tambacounda made me understand that, with simplicity, you can do a lot of good”, added Marco Canzonieri.

In Tambacounda, the right to health is being built, one of the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda. The “Palermo-Dakar” mission has already achieved a first great result: over 45,000 euros collected in donations, thanks to the generosity of many friends and supporters.

Together with the local authorities, an operational roadmap has been defined to start the works, which will be carried out according to Senegalese health regulations. The goal is to build a stable, lasting structure at the service of the population, a safe place where health is the protagonist and where every person can feel at home.

The dream of a dispensary in Tambacounda is taking shape. But there is still much to be done.
